Choosing where to stay
Where to stay in Gordes.
Luxury hotel, guesthouse or rental: the right choice depends on your trip, not on a ranking. Here is how to decide honestly — and where our house fits.
Three kinds of stay
The right place for your trip.
Hotels & luxury hotels
A front desk at any hour, a restaurant on site, a spa, room service. The right choice if you want services around the clock and would rather not organize anything yourself.
For: very short stays, all-inclusive special occasions.
The guesthouse
A lived-in house with a few rooms, where you are welcomed in person and breakfast is included. Fewer services than a hotel — more advice, more quiet, more made to measure.
For: couples, and travelers who want to live the village like the people who live there.
Rentals & villas
Complete independence: your own kitchen, your own hours, nobody else. No breakfast, no one to welcome you — and often the car for everything.
For: a week with family or friends, longer stays.
Cards on the table
Where Villa Hautvallon fits.
We are a boutique guesthouse — what the French call a maison d'hôtes: five rooms in two and a half hectares (6 acres) of grounds, twelve guests at most, the village a ten-minute walk away. Breakfast by the pool is included, we welcome you in person, and we book your tables in the village.
We are not the right choice if you are looking for room service at midnight, a spa with a hammam, or a front desk open through the night: a luxury hotel will make you happier, and Gordes has some excellent ones.
One question that narrows things down fast: are you traveling with your dog? Two of our rooms accept dogs, on request — many places accept none.

To decide
The questions that settle it.
Is it better to stay in a hotel or a guesthouse in Gordes?
It depends on your trip. A hotel offers round-the-clock services (front desk, restaurant, spa); a guesthouse offers a human scale — at Villa Hautvallon: five rooms, twelve guests at most, a welcome in person and breakfast by the pool included. For a family week with complete independence, a rental may suit you better.
Should you stay in Gordes village or just outside it?
Staying in the village puts the cobbled lanes on your doorstep, but also in the path of the daytime crowds. A ten-minute walk away, you keep the village within reach without a car — and come back to the quiet of two and a half hectares (6 acres) of grounds. That is the choice Villa Hautvallon makes.
When should you book a place to stay in Gordes?
For summer, and for weekends from May to September, book several months ahead: small houses fill up quickly. At Villa Hautvallon, availability and rates for each date can be checked online.
